Brushing your teeth is essential for oral health as it prevents tooth decay and gum disease.

 

We should brush our teeth at least twice a day, once at night before bed and once in the morning after breakfast.

 

Brushing the teeth with a fluoride toothpaste, promotes the removal of plaque (a collection of bacteria, saliva and food debris) and helps remineralize the teeth, making them more resistant.

It is the parents or caregiver who are responsible for brushing the child’s teeth until
has sufficient motor dexterity.

 

  • During the months before the appearance of the first teeth, to eliminate
    bacteria that lodge in the gums, we can use a small gauze soaked in water or
    in water or saline solution to wash the gums and avoid the accumulation of
    microorganisms in the mouth.
  • As of 6 months – the moment when the first teeth are born – it is essential
    brushing them every day to prevent the appearance of cavities. In order to facilitate
    brushing, you can even use a finger-tip or a soft brush of an appropriate size, 2
    times a day (one mandatory at bedtime).

 

From 3 years on – you should use a soft children’s toothbrush, twice a
day, every day, under parental supervision.

 

After 6 years – they can already brush their teeth independently.

It is essential that it has fluoride in its composition (1000-1500 ppm).

For babies or children with difficulty in spitting (up to 6 years old) – a portion of toothpaste similar to the size of a grain of rice should be placed on the brush.

From 6 years old on, children and adults should use a pea-sized amount for each toothbrush.

  • The size should fit the mouth of the person using it.
  • The texture should be soft or medium.
  • It should be replaced when the bristles start to become deformed (usually every 3 months).
